Hi Jim, instructions can depend upon the operating systems you’re using. There are lots of applications for Windows or Mac you can use, or (often times) simply double clicking on a compressed folder will un-compress the folder.
      Here’s a tutorial for Windows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compress-uncompress-files-zip-files#1TC=windows-7
For a Mac, simply double click on the compressed folder and the Archive Utility will un-compress the folder for you.
      I hope this helps!

    • If you have a Mac, just double click on it. When using Windows, you have to download a program to unzip it. Google free zip programs, and you will find many programs, which are very easy to use. Automatically after installing, you will be able to right click on the zip file and find uncompress.

  2. The downloads for Chapters 1-3 are identical. Is this intentional or mistake?

My apologies—it was a mistake on my part. They were to be different links. I’ve updated Chapters 1-4. I’ll work at getting the rest up ASAP.

  3. Where are the code example files for chapts 6-14? Only 1-5 are available.

  4. Hi, are there any downloads for Chapters six to twelve as mentioned in the book????

  5. Are there any other zip files for Chapters 6 and on? I was following along in the book (for my class) and cant seem to find the download section for these.

  6. I’m using the book for one of my courses. The website has only chapters 1-5. Where is the material for the rest of the chapters? I need these to go through the book.

  7. Hi Mr. Michaud,
I have some questions for you. They are as follows:
How do I hand in the first assignment?
    Will it be marked?
Will I get some sort of certificate at the end if I complete the book?

    Thanks,
    Kulan

  8. I am working through the book but where are the other chapters to download besides 1-5? Please post asap or when you can… or direct me as to the best course of action? Thanks in advance.

My apologies everyone for not getting the downloads for chapters 6-12 … I’m working on the pages this week. Until that time, you can download each chapter you need

I had my students use this book and was very unhappy to see there are NO resources noted in the textbook.

As of today, April 20, 2015, well over a year there still are NO resources posted.

Unfortunately, I will NOT be recommending this book to my students

I’m sorry you’ll not be recommending the book. I did get the resources posted—for teachers and those wanting challenges for each chapter—at the top of this page a few months back have been posted at the top.

Additionally, there are resources for download on each of the first 12 chapters.

If anyone else is experiencing problems, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly, so I can get any issues fixed (for you and others).

  11. What a disappointed was this book. Chapter 9 on the book make references to files not found after downloading the exercises form this website. The book refers to a float-image.css file on page 142 and that file doesn’t exist. In the most important part of the book I can’t practice the exercises. I guess more attention you have to provide to hour readers who paid money for the book

      Max,
I’m very sorry about this issue for chapter 9. I’ve revised the folder for chapter 09 to more properly match the walk-thru in the first example.

1.) Apparently I kept the solution for the start point (the solutions still remain in the “solutions folder)
2.) I incorrectly named the CSS document as float.css. This has been renamed to float-image.css (as it’s named in the book).

Again, it should have been caught long before. But I’m also willing to make sure correct any problems in the files readers find.
